'No Time to Waste' is an exhibition organized by Counterforce Lab displaying work from UCLA professor Rebeca Méndez’s ‘Word + Image’ course. Students documented their waste for seven days and executed projects based on the following ethos of a sustainable lifestyle: REFUSE, REDUCE, REUSE, REPURPOSE, RECYCLE and ROT. Working in collaboration with the UCLA Zero Waste Initiative, students visited the school’s waste facilities and performed a waste audit of Powell Library. The collected material was then processed and produced into sculptures, posters and books.
'No Time to Waste' curators: Rebeca Mendez, Maru Garcia
Featuring works by the following students:
Hikaru Bakoshi, Celynne Ianne, Wonho Lee, Marisa Ling, Karina Lopez, Koby Otsuka, Stefanie Tam.
The Counterforce Lab is an initiative by Professor Rebeca Méndez based in the Design Media Arts department at UCLA. The lab is a research and fieldwork studio that is dedicated to applying art and design in new collaborations, fields of study, and methods in order to research and develop projects that investigate and mitigate the social and ecological concerns of an era marked by human activity being the dominant agent in climate change and environmental destruction.
